Dollar Store DIY: Floral Centerpiece
Get excited for the start of a new series on my blog, Dollar Store DIY!
I don’t know about you, but I love being creative and resourceful. As I’ve matured I’ve realized that I don’t need to spend an exorbitant amount of money to have nice things in life. I find beauty in simplicity and you can too.
I recently went to a dollar store just to browse and see if I would stumble upon anything interesting. That’s when this idea hit me. Although I LOVE craft stores and practically go to them 2+ times a week, it can be pretty costly to buy materials all the time. One thing I always remind myself is to shop smart. Just because a product is at a dollar store doesn’t mean that it’s automatically better to get that product from the dollar store as opposed to a craft store. Never compromise quality just because it’s cheaper, BUT 99% of the time I think it’s totally worth it to buy certain products from the dollar store to craft with. Let me show you why.
This easy DIY took me less than 5 minutes to assemble and it makes a great centerpiece for a windowsill or table! You can use a variety of supplies to make this piece unique to your personal style and taste. Autumn is my favorite season so I wanted my centerpiece to radiate warmth and passion with deep colors and an accented bow. I love mason jars and thought this one with the handle was a perfect fit for my vision, but you can use a glass or mug if that’s what you prefer.
While walking through the aisles of the dollar store I came across bags of marbles and assorted rocks. I liked the look and feel of the rocks, but again if you prefer the marble look that works well too. As far as the flowers, I obviously wanted to use fake ones because they’ll last forever and I don’t need to worry about watering them. I focused on picking an assortment of warm colors and tones to match the Autumn mood. I also thought it was cute to match and double up the ribbon to make the perfect finishing touch with a bow.
So let’s get started!
Supplies You’ll Need:
-One mason jar, glass or clear mug
-One bag of rocks or marbles
-Assorted fake flowers (2-4 bunches depending on the size of the flowers)
-Two different colors of ribbon
-One pair of scissors
Total money spent with all supplies including scissors: $8
Total money I spent because I already had scissors at home: $7
In reality this centerpiece cost less than $7-8 because of the leftover materials that can be used to make another centerpiece (just buy another jar) or make other crafts.
Peal any labels off the jar, open the bag of rocks and cut any tags off the flowers. Add a small handful of rocks to the jar. Cut the stems of the flowers to match the height of the jar so that they are standing upright. Arrange the flowers in the jar, evenly distributing the colors throughout, and push them in the base of the rocks. Fill the jar with more rocks to secure the stems. Cut approximately 22 inches of each ribbon and wrap the ribbon around the neck of the jar. Tie it once and make a bow.
This quick and easy dollar store diy floral centerpiece makes a great accent piece to your home or an inexpensive gift for a loved one for the upcoming season!
